Double-click on the TweakedRunesRacing.RMOD file to auto-install the mod. 3. Double-click on TweakedRunesRacing.exe in the Rune\System directory to update the Rune.ini file automagically. That's it! Scroll down to "Running Tweaked Runes Racing". --- OR --- ...you can do it the manual way 1. unzip the TweakedRunesRacing.zip download 2. copy everything in the Maps directory to your Rune\Maps directory 3. copy everything in the System directory to your Rune\System directory NOTE: Make sure you overwrite any existing files 4. use Notepad (NOT Word97 or other word processor) to add the following line to your Rune\System\Rune.ini file in the [Engine.GameEngine] section (under the other ServerPackages): ServerPackages=TweakedRunesRacing 5. make sure your server allows downloads (NOTE: The default value is to allow downloads, and shouldn't need to be changed usually). This is necessary because I told clients NOT to download Tweaked Runes Racing from our website. Besides the mod is under 200K and the maps are under 500K. In the [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver] section of your Rune\System\Rune.ini file: AllowDownloads=True That's it! Scroll down to "Running Tweaked Runes Racing". ------=== Running Tweaked Runes Racing ===------ Start a server and add "Tweaked Runes Racing" in the Mutators section. Tweaked Runes Racing will work on any map, but on maps that are not designed specifically for TR Racing, there won't be any Racers sitting on the ground for people to pick up. The only way to use Racers in this situation is to summon them using the "mutate" commands (see Playing Tweaked Runes Racing below). The Rune\System\TweakedRunes.ini file has some options for enabling and disabling features of TweakedRunesRacing. [TweakedRunesRacing.MutatorTweakedRunesRacing] DisableRacers=True // disables all aspects of racing except suicide protection, map switch fix, and Anti-ChatSpam HUD DisableSpawnDelay=True // disables 20 second delay between summoning Racers SpawnDelay=20 // custom number of seconds between summoning Racers DisableNewHUD=True // disables TR Racing's upgraded HUD EnableHUDMutator=True // if you disable the NewHUD, enable this to use the HUD mutator instead DisableMutateBinds=True // disables "mutate RaceBeetle", "mutate Destroy", etc... DisablePawnClassAutoUpgrade=True // disables automatically replacing standard players with Racing Pawns, Racing Pawns have suicide protection, and map switch fixes as well as better Racer control AllowCustomSkins=True // allow other types of PlayerPawns which don't have the security fixes that are in the Racing Pawns WARNING!!! If you use the DisableSpawnDelay setting, your server may become more unstable that usual, and crash. On my server, it would crash at least twice a day before I put the SpawnDelay code in, now it crashes about once a week. WARNING!!! If you set DisablePawnClassAutoUpgrade or AllowCustomSkins to true, people can still crash the server using the suicide bug or map switch bug. Only by setting both of these to false is the server protected against these two bugs. The DisableNewHUD setting is useful if you are trying to use TR Racing with another mod which uses an upgraded HUD (like SarkBall). By using this setting, you won't see the status bargraphs, the Anti-ChatSpammer features will be disabled, and Racing Control Skins will be ineffective. If you disable the new HUD, you can use the EnableHUDMutator setting to get the status bargraphs, but no Anti-ChatSpammer features or Advanced Racing Control. The maps that come with Tweaked Runes Racing require that the TweakedRunesRacing.u file be on the server, and that TweakedRunesRacing is added as a ServerPackage (above). Even if you use the DisableRacers setting, you still need the TweakedRunesRacing.u file and the ServerPackage line. ------=== Playing Tweaked Runes Racing ===------ *** Basic controls *** While riding a Racer, press forward to speed up, and press backward to slow down. It couldn't be simpler! The bargraphs on the HUD that pops up show your Racer's SPEED, ENERGY, and HEALTH respectively from left to right. If your energy gets to 0, the Racer will 'burn out' causing the energy bar to flash. When burned out, you can't speed up or slow down. *** Console Commands *** TR Racing has some console commands to use mainly on maps that weren't design to be used with TR Racing (for example DM-NorthSea is one of the best maps to use with TR Racing, but it doesn't have Racers on the ground for you to pick up, the solution is to use these commands to summon a Racer whenever you need one). The disadvantage of these summoned Racers is that they only have 1 health and will disappear if you crash into a wall or the ground. Also, by default, they can only be summoned a minimum of 20 seconds apart. So if you summoned a Racer, immediately crashed into a wall, and tried to summon another Racer, you would get a message telling you to wait 18 seconds or so. But if you summon a Racer, fly around for more than 20 seconds, then crash or destroy your Racer, you can summon another one immediately. mutate RaceBeetle mutate RaceLizard mutate RaceFish mutate RaceBird These "mutate" commands are entered directly at the console (pulled up by hitting the ~ key in the game) or can be bound to keys by pulling up the console and typing: SET INPUT for example, to summon a Bird Racer whenever you press the "F" key, type this: SET INPUT F mutate RaceBird there are a few other "mutate" commands that may be helpful while playing TR Racing. mutate Boost <-- Gives you a Super Speed Boost, must be at full energy mutate Destroy <-- Destroys the Racer you are riding on mutate Dismount <-- You dismount from your Racer *** Racing Control Skins *** Racing Control Skins (also called Racing Pawns) allow more accurate control of the Racers. Also if you press jump while riding a Racer, you activate the Super Speed Boost, and pressing duck while riding a Racer will cause you to dismount from the Racer. In the options panel where you choose your Skin and set your Name, choose one on the skins that starts with "RACING -". These skins don't look any different, they just send your input commands directly to the Racers. If the server is set to AutoUpgradePawns, then you don't have to choose the Racing Skin, the server will just replace any standard Player Skin with the corresponding Racing Pawn. Have Fun!!! ------=== Uninstalling ===------ Delete the following files from your Rune\System folder: TweakedRunesRacing.u TweakedRunesRacing.int TweakedRunesRacing.exe TweakedRunesClassic.u TweakedRunesClassic.int TweakedRunesClassic.exe Open your Rune.ini using a text editor, find and delete the lines: ServerPackages=TweakedRunesRacing ServerPackages=TweakedRunesClassic If you made maps for Racing, also delete these lines from your Rune.ini: EditPackages=TweakedRunesRacing EditPackages=TweakedRunesClassic You can also delete the settings file if you want: TweakedRunes.ini Also there are probably some Racing maps in the Rune\Maps folder. There's nothing distinctive about the filenames of Racing maps, so you'll have to figure out which one's are Racing maps, but there's also no harm in leaving them there. ------=== Trouble Shooting ===------ DO NOT use Tweaked Runes Racing with the old Tweaked Runes. I've included the new version of Tweaked Runes, Tweaked Runes Classic with TR Racing. In other words... TR Racing + old Tweaked Runes = bad TR Racing + Tweaked Runes Classic = good Specifically, the map DM-GoodFun seems to crash TR Racing for some unknown reason. Not surprising considering how many cheesey hacks I had to use to get GoodFun to work at all. Also there are a few issues with the old HUD mutator that are fixed by the new Tweaked Runes Classic. ------=== End of README ===------ En Fuego Chavez enfuego@runecenter.com README Version 1.1 1.0-11/02/01,1.1-04/19/02
