Map Ideas

This page is for ideas for maps and level for Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003.

ZxAnPhOrIaN's quote (or rant ;)) of map idea making:

Most of my map ideas were inspired from past experiences, recent events, news/internet/magazine articles, pondering, etc. An example of an inspired map is CTF-Afterlife, which is a map that is a Heaven/Earth/Hell theme. I asked myself questions like, "What is a historic and/or modern-day rivalry?" or, "What type of map would have a good team-game feel?". Another example is BR-Colosseum, which was inspired by the movie, Gladiator.

I found that it is easier to map a map (wierd: map a map :)) if you make a map idea outline. It might sound crazy, but it helps in eradicating Mappers Block.

"Open" Means that the map idea is open for mapping to ANYONE.

"Reserved" Means that the map idea is reserved to the mapper designated. This means that other person(s) can't use the name of the map, and cannot map that level. It can be similar, but it cant have all of the criteria in the map idea page. There can be only one person that can reserve any one map idea. Designate who wants to reserve with '::: Reserved to: [Mapper Name]'

The map idea creator means that he or she can edit all of the things stated in the map idea page. Other people are only allowed to edit the discussion part of the page!

Main Gametypes

Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch (UT/UT2003)

/DM-MtDoom? ZxAnPhOrIaN _ EVEN BETTER THAN RIVENDALE ;) :) :P :D. A dark, fiendish hell with The Tower, lava pits, and deathtraps, from The Fellowship of the Ring!
/DM-Rivendale? LegalAssassin _ Even better than MtDoom ;) A bright elvish paradise with water, trees and stone, also from LOTR.
/DM-GrandCanyon? ZxAnPhOrIaN _ The Grand Canyon in Arizona, but at a small scale, with the Colorado River in the bottom. The redeemer, ion painter, and the lightning gun will be on a near impossible-to-get-to butte in the middle of the canyon. You will use all five translocator charges. Also, there would be health up there also, and a water moat. (a little fiction, isn't that why the game is called Unreal Tournament??)
/DM-Ascension? NickR Ancient Eygpt A 1 on 1 Tower type map with multiple levels that you can ascend to when both of you have a certain amount of frags put together, until your at the top and you have to get each other off the edge! That hasn't been done before. Right? :/
/DM-Theater Flashpoint Black An Old Theater I'm working on a map (I have been for about 4 or 5 days) and it's coming along quite nicely. This is my first map, and I'd be happy to share when it's done, but I wanted to share a couple things about it. It'll be like the typical Musical Theater: glass entrance doors, big double wooden doors, sound booth, bathroom, prop room... One of the better ideas that I had was to hide powerful things in the tops of 3 big pillars in the lobby. (they're made up of two cylinders, one tall one that's solid, and one shorter one at the top that is non-solid) things that are up there are: a big keg 'o health, sheild belt, and a redeemer. The sound booth floats above the seats and has 3 breakable windows... there's a sniper rifle up there, too. so you can snipe people around the stage area. any suggestions are welcome! email me at flashpointblack@earthlink.net (I rarely check it, but I may... ;) ) Flashpoint Black

Capture The Flag (UT/UT2003)

/CTF-SpaceRing ZxAnPhOrIaN _ A space future-theme like the UT warp-zone portal test level, RingWorld. Tarquin's tourus builder would come in handy with this map!
/CTF-Rivendoom? ZxAnPhOrIaN _ Both places together!
/CTF-Ascension? NickR Ancient Eygpt A Two Towers type map with multiple levels that you can ascend to to get the flag. One tower for each team with a flag on top. Every time a team captures a flag the opposing teams flag spawns on the next level above, making it harder for the team trying to get it. :D Do I have good ideas or what?
/CTF-MetalGlove EntropicLqd Metal Melting place, Industrial This is the specification for a CTF map I'm working on. It's very losely based on CTf-Gauntlet from UT (and diverging all the time), and will play very differently. I'm not really happy with the feel for any of the current static mesh sets in UT2003 for this map but I'll be damned if I'm going to create my own. I don't have enough time for one thing.
/CTF-HumberBridge? Doogle Large suspension bridge Basically it's like a copy of the Humber Bridge in Hull, England (for those who don't know) with the flag bases at each end, I did have a try at making this for UT1 but couldn't get the scale right as it was either too small or too large for the limits of the game at the time. Maybe UT2k3 can do it justice Doogle

Assault (UT2003)

/AS-Island? AlphaOne _ An island level like in HALO. The objective is to assault/defend some sort of structure in the middle at the top of the mountain.
/AS-Medieval? AlphaOne _ (don't know teh righ spelling) Assault a castle on top of a hill, which is surrounded by a forest, river, valley, and another mountain.

Cold War

/CW-November_SinkSub? LegalAssassin _ Two submarines, one deep sea base and a nuke ;)! (AS-OceanFloor with more bases spread out) Also, some Karma 2p Mini-Subs and 1p transport (you hang behind it) would be cool!
/CW-Marquesas? ZxAnPhOrIaN _ Rugged mountanous island (like Survivor 4: Marquesas) with the two shelters of the two teams as the missle silo and the tribal councel area as the missle parts respawn location.
/CW-Bridge? ZxAnPhOrIaN _ Like the Americas Army: Operations Bridge map with the two towers as the missle silo and the top of the arch in the middle as the missle piece respawn point.
/CW-Sahara? ZxAnPhOrIaN _ Desert type level with two oasis as the missle silo and animal bone wrecage as the missle piece respawn point.
/CW-Mongolia ZxAnPhOrIaN This would be the rural highlands of Mongolia with the Mongolians nomadic yurts (portable houses like tents, but with better structure). The missle silo would be the Ghengis Kahn tent and the town center as the missle piece respawn point.

Shinematch

Medievil Joust

/ME-joust? Combitz _ This is an idea I've had for a long time now and still can't get out of my head. I can make all the meshes needed to create a medivil jousting arena. However I would need some help with scripting, interface, and player animation. As the map/mod says you would be one on one, charge at each other. get points by breaking a lance on the opponent. If you break a lance on the body you get one point, the head 2 points and to knock the opponent off his horse 3 points. It would be great to be able to fight it out on foot also with staff/axe/sword hand to hand weapons like eidos's thief but that may be a huge amount of code. Sobiwan: I can understand listing ideas, but publically posting an idea to the world is asking for someone to use it. That's great, but if you really want it reserved, dont mention it; just do it.

RDGDanClark: Gotta agree with Sobi on this one, there's nothing but the honor system keeping any of us from implementing any of the ideas found here. If someone puts "Reserved" on their idea, I'll respect that, but we would be fools to expect everyone to respect it. Certain things are best kept to yourself ;)

GRAF1K: I had the same idea a while back, but never mentioned it. If you want a reserved idea to be on the wiki, a Developer Journal would fit the purpose better.
